Today’s day is very important in the path of India’s independence. Today was the day “Kakori scandal” which shook the English
government. The brave revolutionaries of the Hindustan Republic Association did a big job, was to loot government treasury at Kakori station. It was not a robbery, but it was a chapter of the Indian revolutionary movement.
The incident is of August 9, 1925. “Kakori” comes a station short distance from Lucknow. Here three youngsters aboard a box of second class of 8 down passenger ten whose names were – Ashfaq Ullah Khan,
Sachindra Bakshi and Rajendra Lahidi. The remaining seven members of the party- Ram Prasad Bismil, Keshav Chakraborty, Murari Lal, Mukundi Lal, Banwari Lal, Manmathnath Gupt and Chandrashekhar Azad rode the third category of the same vehicle and looted Rs 4,500 going as government treasure under the scheme. A passenger was murdered by mistake in this action. Roshan Singh, Ashfaq Ullah Khan, Ram Prasad Bismil and Rajendra Lahidi were sentenced to death in Kakori case.
